(Note: The Moonlighting episode “It’s a Wonderful Job” is a parody of the movie It’s a Wonderful Life. A guardian angel shows Maddie what would have happened if she hadn’t kept the Blue Moon Detective Agency open. In this vision, the Harts from Hart to Hart buy the agency and this is why Max appears. Max is not presented as a fictional character but he is in something like a dream sequence; albeit one that is possibly an actual alternate timeline?
Glenn Gordon Caron, who created Moonlighting, was also one of the writers and producers of Remington Steele, a show with a similar premise. “The Straight Poop” is one of Moonlighting’s many fourth wall breaking episodes. A news crew attempts to figure out why there is no new episode of Moonlighting this week. They show old clips and interview people who know the main characters. One of the interviewees is Pierce Brosnan who in this situation is likely meant to be the character Remington Steele. Arguably, this still falls within the “reality” of Moonlighting but the metafictional frame of the episode itself makes me call it a “B” type crossover.)
