Gnome Heritage {{ currentPage ? currentPage.title : "" }}

Gnomes are to elves what halflings are to humans: smaller in stature, but grander in mischief and charm. Gnomes are reputed as curious and inventive - skilled both with magic and esoteric conventional crafts.

Example Backgrounds: Invention Fair Prize Winner, Overachieving Spell-Weaver, Grease Money, Prankster Illusionist, Charming Gossip.

Class prerequisite: When you create a character, in order to choose gnome heritage as a class you must include in the biography section of your character sheet that your character is a gnome, or was raised by a gnomish family.

Level 1 Talent

Gnomish Magic: As a result of your upbringing in gnome life, you’ve gained a number of exceptional qualities. You can see in the dark with the same acuity as an owl, and by applying your gnomish magic you can produce a number of extraordinary effects instantaneously and at will. You can create an instantaneous, harmless sensory effect, such as a shower of sparks, a puff of wind, faint musical notes, or an odd colour. You can instantaneously clean or soil an object no larger than 1/3 of a cubic meter. You can chill, warm, or flavour up to 1/3 a cubic meter of nonliving material for 1 hour. You can make a colour, a small mark, or a symbol appear on an object or a surface. These effects last for an hour, and only three can exist  at a time - when applying a fourth effect the first effect you applied ends. When the use of this power requires you to make a skill check the relevant attribute will ordinarily be learning and you may add your proficiency bonus as though you had a relevant background.

Level 2 Talent

Gnomish Invention: You’ve picked up that gnomish penchant for messing around with gears and springs. When you gain this talent you gain a bonus background in addition to those you gained at character creation, named “gnomish inventor”, which is relevant in checks connected to knowledge about the operation of mechanical things, the creation and repair of mechanical things, the history of machinery, as the use of mechanical weapons and tools, such as the crossbow.

Level 6 Talent

Unbridled Curiosity: Your distinctly gnomish sense of wonder and adventure has time and again lead you in promising directions. Whenever you are making a check to search for something exciting, you may spend 1 adventure point to get advantage on the check. If you find what you are looking for, that adventure point is refunded to you.

Level 10 Talent

Luck of Garl Glittergold: Garl Glittergold smiles upon you, now one of his proudest creations. When you die, you shall ascend to the golden hills to live among the gnomes and their gods and be celebrated as a righteous champion. Until this time, you may perform great deeds of luck, related to making your wishes come true in serendipitous ways by magic. Whenever you perform great deeds, they cost 1 fewer adventure point than they otherwise would.
