Cavalier {{ currentPage ? currentPage.title : "" }}

Cavaliers are built for the saddle, and feel no better than when they are charging heroically atop their steeds. They’re reputed far and wide for their nobility of spirit and grace in battle.

Example Backgrounds: Knight of the Round Table, Cavalry Charge Leader, Knight in Shining Armour, Horse Whisperer, Jousting Champion.

Level 1 Talent

Noble Steed: You may spend 1 adventure point to designate a mountable creature as your noble steed. You may only have one such steed at a time. While mounted on your noble steed you have advantaged on all rolls to fight creatures smaller than your steed, or to maneuver yourself and your steed out of harm’s way. Your noble steed will try protect you from harm in moments of desperate need. If your steed would make a skill check, it has a fitness of 2 (and 0 in all other attributes) and can add your proficiency bonus to checks where fitness is the relevant attribute. While you have a noble steed, this talent can be injured. When you would be injured, you may choose to instead mark this talent injured (thematically, this injures your steed). This talent cannot be used until the injury is cleared (you still have your noble steed, but do not get advantage on rolls because of it). Immediately after this talent becomes injured, flip two coins. If both are heads, your powerful and canny steed protects you without coming to harm itself - you may immediately clear the injury.

Level 2 Talents

Chivalric Reputation: Your zeal has given you a passion in conversation that inspires confidence. You may spend 1 adventure point to swear an oath to accomplish some purpose. You may only have one such oath at a time. While you have sworn such an oath, you have an advantage on all checks to persuade or inspire people to help you with or not impede you in your quest to achieve this purpose.

Heroic Charge: When you ride into battle with a lance in hand, you are unshakeable. While you charge while mounted as part of a skill challenge, you may spend 1 adventure point to let out a battle cry that inspires your allies, giving each of them advantage on the next skill check they make.

Level 6 Talent

Magical Steed: Your connection to your noble steed has caused it to reveal its true nature as a mythical beast. When you gain this talent if you have a noble steed, your noble steed gains the ability to fly (even while you are mounted on it) albeit somewhat clumsily when in confined spaces, and takes on a spectacular appearance. Whenever you gain a noble steed in the future, they go through a similar transformation, and while you do not have a noble steed you may spend 1 adventure point to summon a noble steed from an otherworldly place in a ritual that takes 10 minutes to perform.

Cavalier’s Knights: Your reputation easily attracts heroic knights to your service. Your party’s club may hire Knight hirelings for 3 pull. Knights have 3 admin and 6 fight, or 3 admin and 9 fight when on a job that involves participating in battles. When at least one knight works on a job, the reputation of your party is enhanced by the job’s success - those who learn about it come to perceive your party as just, magnanimous, and valorous, if they had no strong opinion of the members of your party beforehand.

Level 10 Talent

Legendary Cavalier: Your legend is already on lips of knights at festivals and children enacting out your chivalrous deeds with toys throughout the realms, and it will long outlive you. You’ll appear long after your death in the dreams of great heroes facing hard choices, inspiring in them the courage and capacity for sacrifice needed to defend the righteous. While you live, you come to truly embody the ideals you stand for. Treat your proficiency bonus as 2 higher than it is for skill checks made to rescue or protect others.
