Detectives use their finely honed minds to find evidence that others overlook, and use techniques of induction, deduction, and most importantly abduction to solve mysteries inscrutable to others.

Example Backgrounds: Baldur’s Gate Gumshoe, Arcane Academy Private Eye, Disgraced Knight-Constable, Official Royal Logician, Priest-Detective of Denier.

Level 1 Talent

Deductive Genius: You may perform great deeds of deduction, related to gaining correct information about someone or something on the basis of little or no evidence. You may spend 1 adventure point to designate a question as your mystery. You may only have one such mystery at a time. You have advantage on all rolls directly related to gathering information or otherwise learning about your mystery. 

Level 2 Talent

Detective’s Expertise: Choose a background which you have related to investigation or detective work. (If you have no such background, you may not take this tallent. When you make a skill check using this background and fail, you may re-roll one of the dice, possibly turning a failure into a success

Chief Investigator: When you gain this tallent, choose one of your backgrounds related to investigation or detective work. (If you have no such background, you may not take this tallent. When your party sends hirelings and specialists out on a job, you may act as a clerk specialist if you travel with the hirelings as they work. When you do so, the background you chose counts as your area of expertise. Additionally, you may instruct other specialists in the detective’s arts, such that other specialists employed by your party may substitute the background you chose for their area of expertise.

Level 6 Talent

Psychological Manipulation: When you are in conversation with someone, you may spend 1 adventure point to suggest a course of activity (limited to a sentence or two) and psychologically influence that creature to do it, as though they had come up with the idea themself and were quite taken with it. The suggestion must be worded in such a manner as to make the course of action sound reasonable. Asking the creature to stab itself, or do some other obviously harmful act ends the effect. They continue to be influenced by this effect for four hours. 

Level 10 Talent

Perfect Deductions: Your intellect has become so far advanced that you have gained a kind of instantaneous knowledge of the implications of every small detail you notice. The world lights up with the connections you see between small things. Your awareness and learning, as well as your maximum awareness and learning, both increase by 1.
