I must commend Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor for the tenderness and nuance she brings to her portrayal of Ellwood's grandmother I think the two lead performances by Ethan Herisse and Brandon Wilson are perfectly tuned. Nickel Boys Flixtor is a film for those who prefer to be challenged rather than spoon-fed the same old thing over and over again. The plot develops in a dizzying manner that isn't always clear, but you are forced to think and imagine as part of your viewing experience. Along with excellent camera work, the soundtrack and score complement the images flawlessly, and the whole thing is put together with care and ease.
