Glen Larson's series The Fall Guy Afdah movies which aired from 1981 to 1986 and was titled Profession Danger in Italy, laid the groundwork for the concept. David Leitch drew inspiration from this for his original score, working with Drew Pearce on the script. While the original series depicted stuntmen with a side hustle as bounty hunters, the new narrative focuses on the production of an unconventional western-sci-fi film.
