The movie begins at a hospice center, a setting that could have been bleak and sorrowful, yet the atmosphere is unexpectedly light and even cheerful. Sam, a terminally ill patient, hesitantly reads out her funny, profanity-laden poem. Nyong’o effortlessly charms with her charisma, making me immediately fond of Sam's spirited and sarcastic humor. She establishes a natural connection with her nurse, who accompanies her to a Marionette theater for a special outing. Unbeknownst to them, it marks the final opportunity for everyone to enjoy a normal way of life without the fear of creatures with ultrasonic hearing.
