The narrative takes place in 1989. Kathryn Newton portrays Lisa Swallows, a timid teenager who resides with her father Dale, stepsister Taffy, and stepmother Janet. Hanging around at an abandoned cemetery, where she tends to the grave of a young lad who has passed away, is Lisa's idea of a good time. However, during a peculiar storm, "the Creature" is struck by lightning and comes to life.
