How do I clean rims without damaging the rim stickers? {{ currentPage ? currentPage.title : "" }}

I have a pair of alloy Fulcrum racing sport DB wheels that have some over the top graphics and lettering. They are really hard to remove. Trying to peel them just leaves both big parts of the stickers and the glue. Any suggestions? If you use a little bit of the proper method, cleaning your rims with a good cleaner is not all that difficult. I would start with a degreaser, one that is safe for the wheels and will not require much scrubbing or agitation. Then follow that with a wheel cleaner that is safe for your specific brand of wheels, (I have used Meguiar's, and it is quite effective). After the wheel is clean, wax it, to give it more protection. Then it will be much easier to maintain, and keep them looking great for a long time.

Before using any chemical to remove your Rim stickers, test it out on a small area that will not show, to make sure it will not damage the finish of your wheels. Acetone or paint thinner works well for most people, but can be damaging to anodized rims and clear coats on painted wheels. White gas, petrol or kerosine could also be used but is too dangerous to be recommended, especially if you have a passenger vehicle that is driven on the highways.

Rim stickers offer more than just aesthetic benefits; they can also improve rider safety. Reflective rim stickers, in particular, enhance visibility during low-light conditions or nighttime riding. These stickers reflect light from car headlights and streetlights, making the motorcycle more noticeable to other drivers. This added visibility can help reduce the risk of accidents, especially in conditions where it’s difficult to see motorcycles.

Choose a microfiber towel that you are okay getting dirty, and place it in a bucket of warm water, or one with the cleaning solution that you have chosen to try. Then dip the cloth into the cleaning solution and scrub the wheel, working in a circular motion. If your wheel is very dirty, it may need to be scrubbing for a longer time than other wheels.

If you decide to use an acid cleaner, it will be best if you can do it in a shaded area and when the wheel is not too hot. The acid can cause corrosion if it comes into contact with the metal of the rim or tire. If the acid is properly diluted, it will slow down the corrosive action so that it can be thoroughly sprayed off the wheel before it gets too far into the grooves of the wheel.

Rinse the wheel with the warm water, then dry it with a clean microfiber towel or paper towels. Wipe off any residue with the rubbing alcohol, or if you do not have any, nail polish remover will work as well. It is always a good idea to write down what you use, and on which part of the wheel, so that if you do accidentally damage the rim sticker, you know which area it was on. Regular maintenance with a dry towel once or twice a week will make keeping your wheels clean a lot easier, and it will keep them looking great for a longer time. It will be easier to maintain them in this condition than if they are not cleaned on a regular basis, and the grime and brake dust will build up quicker.
